"Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1536).
By virtue of Baptism, every Christian has a "vocation," a calling from God, to help in spreading the Good News of God's love. Some of the baptized experience a special calling to follow Jesus through a life consecrated and dedicated in a very focused way on service in the Church. Vocations to the priesthood, the diaconate and the religious life necessarily involve one in the larger Church of which Gesù Church is a part.
